A: Yes, they are otherwise know as "filtering facepieces", and are
considered to be respirators.
Q: In order to comply with the
requirements of the medical evaluation, must I send our employees to
a doctor (Physician)?
A: No, you may use any licensed health care professional, such as a
Registered Nurse, Nurse Practitioner, or a Physician's Assistant
(PLHCP). You have the option of sending the employee directly
to the health care facility, sending in the questionnaire, or
completing an on-line questionnaire by clicking
here.
Q: Do Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus Masks need to be
fit-tested?
A: Yes, all SCBA masks must be fit-tested with either Qualitative or
Quantitative methods. An adapter must be used when
fit-testing.
Q: When using respirator cartridges for protection against
pesticides in California, can I use them for a total of eight hours,
even if it takes multiple days?
A: No, the cartridges must be changed out at the end of each work
day, or until you detect "breakthrough". Under no
circumstances can they be re-used for another work day.
Q: Do medical evaluations need to be performed annually?
A: No, but if the Respirator Program Administrator notices a
physical or health change in an employee, then another medical
evaluation must be performed.
Q: Does the medical evaluation need to be
performed prior to the fit-testing?
A: Yes, the medical evaluation needs to be performed prior to the
fit-testing. This assures that the employee can safely wear a
respirator.
